Lightning kills at least two in north Houston

Sunday’s storms have claimed the lives of at least two people during men’s league soccer club play on an Aldine-area soccer field.

According to authorities, a men’s league soccer club were playing on the field when it began to rain around 12:10 pm. The group of males were sheltering from the rain under the trees.

At that point lighting struck the tree, killing one male, and two other males were also struck.  The two males were transported by ambulance to Ben Taub.  One male was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. The third male is in stable condition. No names of the victims are available.

The approximate location of the incident is below.

This is very unfortunate incident and a reminder that as tempting as it may be to play in the rain, only do so when thunder and lightning are not present. When thunder roars, go indoors.

Prior to this incident 11 people had been struck and killed this year in the United States by lightning strikes, including one in Houston in June.
